The .com myth and with all greek mythology there;s an achilies heel.It works no better then any other extensions,, we even lost milions or did you forget of the .com bust yet some cling to it like it is the internet itself and without it there will be no internet. So an achilies heel which is just about in everything which is a weakness and .com is no exception .So what's its achilies heal? Well when you start to see .com names pointing to non .com sites like delicious.com pointing to del.icio.usyou have to start asking your self just what the heck is going on . The achilies heal is ,can something be everything to everyone,Obviously not ,ever try and pick a cereal in an asile at a grocery store theres just about dozens to pick from .With the interenet, targeting your audience through the local country code will be the only way to identify with who your selling to. Here's a few companies that have already figured it out,,targeting the US along with the countries they sell in ,first their's Rinnai.us then theirs Ikea.us which has been opening outlets in the US and targeting the US through .US, Metro.us metro seems new but is already in three big cities and growing as online newspaper. All these companies have in common that not only do they have a .com site but they all have not only .US site but the country they sell in also have a site with the country code depending on which country.
Companies can't simply rely on one extension or site any longer and will need to cater to the markets they sell in through different sites through the use of country codes.

With 2006 here .US will be nearing 4 years since its release in April of 02 .With close to 1 mill regs and companies starting to use the .US in main stream media ,.US is becoming more integrated into the daily lives of the American people and people all over the world. Countries and folks looking for goods and services throughout the world find it easily through the use of cctld's or country codes looking for cheeses in greece its cheese.gr ,looking for candy in germany its candy.de and for America its none other then .US . So where's .US headed for 06 ,,more media exposure and more adoption of companies realizing their missing out on building their brand and targeting their markets through .US. Nothing more American then Flying your Flag and using .US

Seems like routine by now during another highly watched event The Golden Globe Awards Volvo pounded the night commericial after commericial with url volvocars.us ,.US is looking closer and closer to coming into superbowl add territory with the likes of Volvo.
