Seems more and more organizations are moving away from the generic .com extension to more targeted extensions .Take for example the new tld .Travel ,they set up there main site at TRAlliance.info they own the name in .com as well but don;t even point it to the site. One has to wonder why a organization that needs all the coverage and exposure it could use to launch a new extension .Travel doesn;t even want to point the .com to the site. My guess is they don't want to be know as a dot com site ,just another generic site going on line with nothing to set itself apart from the millions of other .com sites, sure folks may type .com out of habit but the stigma of just another .com going online was probably too much for the .Travel folks to over come without spending millions of advertising dollars. Targeted extensions like .Travel,.XXX,.Pro,.Biz,.EU,.Jobs,.Mobi and country codes targeting the country your selling will make even .com alittle nervous now a days.
Monday, July 25, 2005 Kids.us Time to Pull the Plug
Well after about half dozen boiler plate notices from neustar overseer of kids I'v decided to remove all my kids from the directory. It's pretty amazing to get boiler plate notices when the majority of sites in their are mine its not like they have dozens or hundres to keep track of.At this point even if they were to waive the fees im out.Poor handling from day one, poor marketing and poor promtion culiminated in the fall of kids.us . Talk is cheap, i'll have too actually see the promtion promised and hundreds of sites in the directory before i go back in their. Someone or company who actually believed in the extension could have done ten times the job,to sit on your hands for 2 years waiting for sites to sign up was a joke to say the least.
